Newton Mearns Parish Church, 242 Ayr Road, Newton Mearns, Glasgow G77 6AA

UKNIWM: Not Listed
OS Grid Ref: NS 537557

The present church building is the fourth church to be built in Newton Mearns and the second to occupy the site since the first church was built in 1743. www.churchatthecross.org.uk

The WW1 & WW2 Memorial is situated at the top of the stairs leading to the balcony.

It is inscribed as follows:

TO THE GLORY OF GOD
AND IN AFFECTIONATE REMEMBRANCE OF THE MEN OF THIS CONGREGATION
WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE IN BOTH WORLD WARS
1914 – 1918

Robert T. Anderson
Adam Drysdale
William McK. Orr
Thomas Powrie
John Robertson
David Young
John M. Young

1939 – 1945

Charles Harvie
William Henderson
Ernest Herbert
William McMeechan
Robert G. Young

The inscriptions on the window are as follows:

“He that overcometh shall inherit these things and I will be his God”

“Over these the second death hath no power”

Many thanks to Mary, the Church Secretary, for allowing access to the church.
