Seaman Peter McMaster Barr (J.59197 RN and DA14695 RNR) is named on the Mochrum Parish War Memorial in Port William, Wigtownshire and on the Parish Church Memorial, together with his brothers Alexander Barr, Private 8539, Scots Guards (d.11/11/1914) and Walter Barr, Sapper 146773, Royal Engineers (d.21/5/1917)
Peter died of TB at the family home in Elrig Village, Mochrum on 19/5/1918 and he is shown as Gunner, Royal Naval Reserve, Hydrophone Operator.
He had been discharged from the RNR while serving at Larne in Ireland on 23/2/1918, due to the same illness.
His case is being progressed by Terry at the In From the Cold Project.
However, in spite of extensive searches by Mike Morley (and others) we are still trying to find his burial place.
It should be in Mochrum Churchyard - the family lived in Elrig Village all of their lives. The mother, Elizabeth McMaster, died there in 1902. The father, Alexander Clave Barr, died in 1940 - but we have yet to find death or funeral notices for any of them.
It does look as though Peter's name will be added to the CWGC Register in the near future.

The good news is that BARR was accepted and added by CWGC today.
In fact, he is the quickest acceptance known to me in fifteen years of doing this! His acceptance took exactly seven days from submission, and, when you consider that we have some RN cases that are still in the system after four years, that is not a bad result.
