The Devils porridge museum at Eastriggs on the Dumfries Rd out of Gretna is one big memorial to the workers of the ammunitions plant which ran for 15 miles along the coast. Well worth a visit if passing but dont go from Aberdeen to Grentna or from Glasgow just to see the museum its not that good.

One of the stories goes that the pubs came under martial law and the opening times were different from the rest of Britain because of workers working with cordite being one over the eight. This law was changed in 1971, does anyone know why it took so long to change the law in EastRiggs as the musuem bloke didnt have a clue.

Go and see this memorial with loads of artifacts not just from both wars but from the train crash at Quintinshill. You will enjoy the 2 hours it takes.

The Dumfries memorial includes an entry for Miss R E Robertson Mun Wkr who would have worked at the factory.

Well worth reading up on, there is a thread on GWF - I can't remember exact details but something like a factory 9 miles long with its own railway system and 2 new towns built to house the workers.

This entire exhibition has now moved to a new location. It is a purpose built building with good parking at the West of Dornock, not far from the Dornock War Memorial. I was there today and it is a 'must see' if you are in the area.

The last location (2008) was just a temporary location. The museum has moved yet again to a new purpose built bulding. The new Devil's Porridge Museum was opened by the Princess Royal on 22nd May 2015.
