Just wondering if anyone can confirm for me if Alex Peters of Dumbarton was ever a Regimental Postman? I have a letter from a Private A Peters who was a postman published in the Dumbartonshire Lennox Herald newspaper. It reads that he was the Regimental Postman for the 9th Argylls but the info I have on Alex Peters who is on the Dumbarton War Memorial is that he was part of the 10th Bn A & S. H. Any ideas?

Looking at the index of Medal Cards at the National Archives there were three Alexander Peters who served with the Argylls - Private and then Corporal 2170, Private 2399 & S/40636 (Died 9/4/17- 10th Bn.) and Private 3/6864.
(From memory I think this last service number indicates a reservist)
Either the first or last man could have been your postman. _________________ Ken |
