What else do you know about James McCulloch?
This might be him - His father was Robert McCulloch, 39 Henry St., Dumbarton. He was born at Dumbarton.
McCULLOCH, J
Rank: Lance Corporal
Service No: 3/6157
Date of Death: 30/10/1914
Regiment/Service: Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders
2nd Bn.
Grave Reference III. N. 2.
Cemetery TROIS ARBRES CEMETERY
Just there above,Date of Death 30/10/1914
I know he didn't die at Lille ,I just thought you might be intrested in seeing the article, our local paper has been known to get thing wrong from time to time Iam delighted I can now correct that information in James folder. I did a bit more fishing about at the library today for a date of death for John Stevenson and Ive looked on SP but still no joy.If I find out anymore I will let you know.Again thankyou, your help has been wonderful, thanks. |

Sorry sorry sorry Jim.I just looked up a service return and yes it says 30.10 .14 Again I am looking at that article which was taken from a 1915 newspaper,so why would they print that story so late on,I don't know.I will look into why that would be just for my own curiosity. Anne |

Anie
That detail might have appeared a number of weeks after his death at the end of Oct 1914, so likely it was early 1915. Remember the war was just starting to give casualties in number and so there was a lot of confusion going on at the time.
The date in the CWGC roll is nearly always correct ( repeated below)
McCULLOCH, J
Rank: Lance Corporal
Service No: 3/6157
Date of Death: 30/10/1914
Regiment/Service: Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders
2nd Bn.
Grave Reference III. N. 2.
Cemetery TROIS ARBRES CEMETERY, STEENWERCK
