On of "my" men, I just wondered what the M.P.S. after the next of kin info stood for, anyone know?
RAMSAY, WALTER ROBERTSON
Rank: Private
Service No: 14641219
Date of Death: 18/08/1944
Age: 27
Regiment/Service: Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) 1st Bn.
Grave Reference: IX. E. 24.
Cemetery: RANVILLE WAR CEMETERY
Additional Information: Son of William Craig Ramsay and Matilda Nicol Simpson Ramsay, of Arbroath, Angus. M.P.S.

The death certificate for William Craig Ramsay shows him as a blacksmith foreman (retired). The death certificate for Matilda Nicol Ramsay shows no occupation for her (this was normal for a woman's death certificate of that time), but that she was the wife of a Salesman Collector. So as far as I can see there are no clues there as to MPS.
The SMWM gives one other nugget of info, but no nearer to MPS that I can see:
SNWM roll: THE BLACK WATCH (ROYAL HIGHLAND REGIMENT) and THE TYNESIDE SCOTTISH
The service return for Walter's death gives nothing that wasn't already given above (apart from spelling his surname as RAMSEY).
The 1911 census shows William (a blacksmith) and Matilda and their 5 children born by then (too early for Walter's 1916 birth registration).

I'd a look on-line. 101 different ones.
Nothing jumped out at me.
Scotland then was N. B. North Britain.
So maybe Mearns Postal Service.........

I recall that a chemist used to have after their name these MPS letters and I see that the Arbroath & District WW2 roll of honour have Pte W R Ramsay BW listed on Page 3 of the book and see that he had served his apprenticeship with Mr James Jack arbroath and qualified as a chemis after studying at Dundee Teck College etc

It seems to makes sense anyway, but putting it after parents info was a little confusing than say before it.

M.P.S. - Chemist would be my belief in this case.
For NOK to add specific details of the casualty after theirs is usual on CWGC entries, where any are given eg, Native of ?, born Y, served during SA War, etc., follow the NOK details.
