The Mohmund Expedition was part of the Indian Frontier War of 1897. The 40th Pathans did not take part in this campaign so he must have served in another regiment.
Would he have been in the UK in August 1914 and been attached to a New Army battalion rather than return to India, is that why he was attached to 10th Argylls?
