I "discovered" this memorial in an exterior wall at Hillwood Primary School in Ratho Station last week. I don't see it featured anywhere on the site. If it's already here, can someone please provide a link to it?

I take it the memorial is the dark grey panel on the single-storey building down the hill in this picture. As this is a modern building, I presume the panel was removed from an older school in Ratho Station.

The history page on their website implies they have done some project work on WWI at Remembrance Day (be prepared to wait a few minutes for the pictures to appear - slow website?).

My thoughts are that you should post the photos on this thread. Hopefully one of the site administrators or moderators can move this thread to the appropriate section of the forum.

If it's named to "men of this district" then the appropriate civic section is where it should be posted.

Hi Tam

Thanks for the heads up on this one. I visited the school this morning and took a few photos too.

I've researched Great War casualties from the districts around this one and all the names appear either in my Ratho ROH or Kirkliston ROH, both of which covered the Newbridge district.

As Hillwood Primary replaced the school in Newbridge, and the memorial definitely has "To the memory of the men of this district" as opposed to "this school", I'm wondering if this memorial may have originally have been a distinct "Newbridge District" memorial, even though the Kirkliston memorial states it covers the Newbridge area.

If so, I'd imagine it would go under the "Edinburgh Civic" option with a reference to the fact it is now located at Hillwood Primary School, Ratho Station but may have originally been the Newbridge District Great War Memorial.

I'm happy to put up a photo too once we've come to an agreement as to which section it should be in.
Any further thoughts from the moderators?

I've sent an e-mail to the school asking if they have any information about where the memorial originally came from.

Have had a quick reply from the school who confirm this was orginally the Newbridge District Great War Memorial:

"Yes, I can confirm that the memorial was originally the Newbridge District Great War Memorial. Could you send us a link to the website you intend to put it on? I'm sure this would be of great interest to our school community and maybe we could even use it find out more about members of the community who fought.

I have sent the link as requested and also some material regarding the casualties I have as a thank you for the schools quick response.
