Hi,
I wonder if anyone has transcribed the names from this memorial? I am looking for Lieut. William Marshall Burt-Marshall, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders who was killed in 1914. His family was, I believe, very well known in the area and had a Dye Works in Luncarty.
Any help would be appreciated regarding a memorial to him or any thing from the local press, etc.

Luncarty war memorial is on the project here

This was apparently a memorial for the bleach works but is now considered the town memorial.

It seems a little strange that W.M.B-M is not on the memorial because his family owned the Bleach/Dye? Works under the name, Burt-Marshall, Lumsden Ltd, Luncarty, Perth, and although W.M.B-M's father had died in 1900 his mother Mrs Catherine B-M was still living at Luncarty House? in 1915, according to Walford's.

W.M.B-M had a twin brother David Bannerman B-M who had a distinguished career during WW1 in the Seaforth Highlanders winning the DSO, also being MID x 7 times and was also awarded the OBE, he retired in 1923.

William Burt-Marshall is on the parish memorial in Redgorton Church;

I will have an article for him which I'll post later. Again, if I remember rightly, it was quite a short entry.

Note:
This has reminded me that the memorials for Great War/WW2 were to be moved from the redundant church at Redgorton to the new Luncarty Church Centre. Another to follow up!

PERTHSHIRE OFFICER WOUNDED

Lieutenant. W.M. Burt-Marshall, of the 2nd Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, who is reported wounded and missing, was born on 14th July, 1887, and is the second surviving son of the late Mr James Burt-Marshall, of Luncarty, and of Mrs Burt-Marshall, Luncarty, Perth. He was educated at Ardvreck School, Crieff, Rugby, and Sandhurst, from which he was gazetted to the 2nd Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in 1908.

PERTHSHIRE OFFICER KILLED

Another brilliant son of Perthshire, Lieutenant W.M. Burt-Marshall, of the 2nd Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, has laid down his life for his country. In November last it was reported that he was wounded and missing, but now comes the official news that he has died of wounds. Deceased, who was born in 1887, was the second surviving son of the late Mr James Burt-Marshall, of Luncarty, and of Mrs Burt-Marshall, Luncarty. He was educated at Ardvreck School, Crieff, Rugby, and Sandhurst, from which he was gazetted to the 2nd Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in 1908.
