Looking for some help please.
Pte. George Campbell - Grenadier Guards is listed on the Borgue WM.
The only one listed on CWGC (thanks to Geoff) is

Name: CAMPBELL, GEORGE
Initials: G
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: Grenadier Guards
Unit Text: 1st Bn.
Date of Death: 27/09/1918
Service No: 25471
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 3.
Memorial: VIS-EN-ARTOIS MEMORIAL

I'm having trouble connecting him to Borgue. SNWM says born Loanhead, Ayrshire. (wher's that?)
Can anyone help with, for example, SDGW or MIC????

Another question - would he have been a "Guardsman" or a "Private" ?
I've noticed that the rank on CWGC seems to vary.

SDGW has him enlisting at Stirling and born Loanhead, Ayr.
Nothing more on MIC, no service file.

Should be Guardsman, but may be Pte. during training. He is the only one on CWGC.

If you want to pay you could get his service file from the regiment.

Loanhead Ayrshire probably refers to an area of Kilmarnock.

I note that his rank on SDGW is signaller.

His name is listed in Stewartry ROH but nothing else.

I now think that this man might be:

Name: CAMPBELL, GEORGE
Initials: G
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: King's Own Scottish Borderers
Unit Text: 6th Bn.
Age: 31
Date of Death: 03/05/1917
Service No: 20443
Additional information: Son of William Campbell, of 142, Waddell St., Glasgow.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Bay 6.
Memorial: ARRAS MEMORIAL

SNWM has him born in BORGUE.

George Little Campbell was born 2/1/1886 in High Borgue.
Father - William. Mother - Jane Annie Tomlinson Little Campbell.
(Jane died in Greenock in 1914)

Just got some info that the rank became Guardsman in November 1918 when the King granted the change in recognition of their service.
