Adam,

Is there a Roll of Honour/List of names for Musselburgh anywhere?

I'm looking for William Anderson L/Cpl. Seaforth Highlanders KIA 06/04/1916.

He was a native of Blairgowrie but was a policeman in Musselburgh at the outbreak of the war.

Not that I am aware of I'm afraid. With him being a policeman the local paper might have something though.

"A group of Musselburgh members of the 90th Winnipeg Rifles had a rough experience in the Germans first gas attack. Private James Colville, son of Mr Andrew Colville, retired watchmaker, is in a base hospital from the effects of the fumes, and a message from him announces that his brother, Private Archibald Colville was so badly "gassed" , that he had to be left on the battlefield. James states that he walked his brother about in an attempt to counteract the deadly effect, but had at length to leave him. His fate is unknown."

Born November 6th 1884 in Musselburgh, so 30 at time of his death.

(Glasgow Herald 2nd June 1915)
"Private G. Orr, 90th Winnipeg Rifles, has been killed in action. He was a plumber to trade and had only been in Canada a year or two when the war called him across the Atlantic. Five Scoto-Canadians visited Musselburgh at the New Year time, and of these Private Orr and Private D. Wilson, 90th Winnipeg Rifles, have been killed in action; the brothers Private Archie and James Colville have been 'gassed'- the former being missing and the latter in hospital; Private E. Orr, Canadian Army, Medical Corps, is still effective. The brothers Colville had a brother in the 7th Royal Scots killed at Gretna in the train disaster."

Alexander Brunton – age 35 – Private (30122) 18th Battalion (4th Glasgow), Highland Light Infantry.
Alexander had served his apprenticeship in Dumfries and was a chemist in Musselburgh and a Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society when he enlisted in June 1916. He joined his battalion in France in January 1917 but was fatally wounded in mid-July and died in the 5th Casualty Clearing Station in Tincourt. (Source:D&G Standard 18/7/1917 p.2)

Samuel McClure – age 42 – Private (46600) 16th Battalion (2nd Edinburgh) Royal Scots.
Samuel had been an Insurance Clerk and Surveyor with the Guardian Assurance Company in Leith and was living at 51 West Holme Gardens in Musselburgh when he enlisted in November 1915. He was mobilised in July 1917 and posted to the 16th Battalion in France in January 1918.
