Mark

He is not on CWGC, nor found by IFCP. There is no sign of him in usual places and death not is recorded overseas.

Suggest checking the papers to see if there is more info. Something odd here, it seems. Maybe he survived, POW, etc and the detail later corrected. Served under another name ? The date and unit are certainly wrong, unless he was attached to K.O.S.B.

There is no MIC for Charles Forbes KOSB so either the name is wrong or regiment is wrong or, he wasn't entitled to any medals, that seems extremely unlikely he would almost certainly be entitled to a medal or two if he was killed in action or became POW.

My bet would be he served under a different name.

Mark , Ive had a look over the last two days and it seems he must have used an alias .

My last check was just for KOSB's casualties with death date of 11 April 1917 and there are only 4 but none are from the Perth/Perthshire area and the nearest is Dundee .

The casualties on the 11April 1917 numbers only 1886 for that date. Could the death date be wrong as it seems quick for a notice of death to come through for that part of the Great War and for a non officer to get the report through. I thought OR's took longer to get through than officers but I may be mistaken .

Mmm. Put Stewart Forbes into Ancestry census. Three for 1901 but detail not matching up really. He looks the most 'likely' candidate. This Perth Golden Book!! Much more to query BTW.
