Dear All
I have connectons to the Orkney Isles through the ARMIT family and am just curious to know if there are any Armit names on the Kirkwall Memorial for either the first or second world war.
The CWGC site doesn't have any records I can link to but maybe ...
Regards

We don't have much for Orkney here, but the Royal British Legion branch in Orkney has done a lot of work on the memorials there.
There is no-one of that surname on the memorial at Kirkwall.
You might want to have a look on their site to see if there are any on some of the other memorials listed.

Re your query re the surname ARMIT I have checked the Soldiers died index and see that there are only SEVEN casualties named Armit and none of them are from Orkney Isles . They tend to be from Fife, Lanarks , Perthshire , & Stirlingshire and their regiments vary from the 6 Black Watch , 8 Black Watch , HLI, Argylls & Seaforths . There is one Officer with that surname in the Royal Scots but I dont have his birth location etc details . My copy of the Scottish National War Memorial roll of honour - Black Watch has just the two ARMIT soldiers and both are not from the Orkney Isles . Dont have any info on WW2 casualties with that surname
hope this helps and my colleague's info previous to my entry re the Orkney isles Royal British Legion Scotland website which looks excellent# |
