Jody

I think so far we only have public memorials to Nelson and Waterloo from the Napoleonic period and a few private memorials to individuals which mention military or naval service during that time.

You might want to try looking through the Dumfries and Galloway section of the Scottish War Graves Project to see if there are any headstones with inscriptions mentioning Napoleonic war service.

I don’t think there will be such a thing as a list of those who served from an area. I believe some Militia lists from those times survive for some areas. I think your best bet is to try a genealogist forum such as Talking Scot which might be of more use to you.

Good luck with your search.

Regards

Adam

I have pretty much covered all of the likely places for memorials in and around Kirkcudbright (except a WW1 memorial in Kirkcudbright Academy that I still have to photograph). Nothing exists for the period you seek and I have searched in the Stewartry museum in Kirkcudbright as well.

I think your best chance would be Regimental Museums - perhaps the KOSB museum in Berwick?

There's a very interesting thread on Rootschat about a soldier from the napoleonic war, you may wish to cantact the last poster on the thread Martin Aaron who appears to have a lot of info on the men in the wars against the french.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,58774.0.html

It was a query about a gravestone in Brechin which began it all, may have to get out there for some war grave photos soon!
