I believe that Francis Smith is the brother of Andrew Smith and Gilbert Smith (the names on either side of him).
From Ancestry records (source information below) I know this about Francis:-
Name: Francis Smith
Birth Place: Unst, Shetland
Residence: Edinburgh
Death Date: 31 May 1918
Death Location: France & Flanders
Enlistment Location: Edinburgh, Midlothian
Rank: Private
Regiment: Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders
Battalion: 5th Battalion
Number: S/12860
Type of Casualty: Died of wounds
Theatre of War: Western European Theatre
Hope this helps you to find details for Francis in your database now that you have his serial number.
I realise the plaque says he was in the G.H. but it is an easy mistake to imagine the engraver making since his two brothers were in the G.H.
Cheers
Morag
