This is a transcription from "For Remembrance and in Honour of those who lost their Lives in the South African War 1899-1902" by Sir James Gildea, published in 1911. This is a book which documents Boer War memorials in both Britain and abroad. Many of them make reference to Scottish Regiments.

Due to the age of the book, and the fact that this is a transcription, this memorial may no longer exist or be in the location as posted. I put this information online for reference. If anyone can provide a photo of this memorial we would be eternally grateful.

Quote:
In loving memory of Captain St. JOHN MEYRICK, second son of Colonel Sir Thomas Charlton Meyrick, Bt. C.B. of Apley Castle. Born on the 4th of August 1866, he served for 12 years in the Gordon Highlanders and was killed whilst gallantly leading his men against the Boers in the South African War at Doornkop, near Johannesberg on the 20th of May 1900. His body was conveyed to Maraisburg Cemetery and buried in the presence of his comrades and many kind friends 31st May. “Well Done good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord”.
