Name: FRASER, DUNCAN.
Rank:Private
Service No:135365
Date of Death:02/06/1916
Regiment/Service:Canadian Infantry
19th Bn. (2nd A&SH of Canada)
Grave Reference: Enclosure No.4 1. R. 4.
Cemetery: BEDFORD HOUSE CEMETERY (Belgium)

Wigtownshire Free Press (13/7/1916): "Stranraer's most promising young footballer' Killed" Mr George Fraser, Keys Hotel, Stranraer, has been informed that his son, Private Duncan Moir Fraser, Canadian Highlanders, was killed in action on 2nd inst. Pte Fraser, who was 27 years of age, served his apprenticeship to the ironmongery business with Mr James McHarrie, and was well known in the town and district. He emigrated to Canada about four years ago, and enlisted there last year, being sent over to England to complete his period of training. He had been in France since the beginning of this year. Pte Fraser was one of the most promising young footballers ever seen in Stranraer. For a season he played in one of the teams in the Junior League, as a forward, and good judges predicted a bright future for him on the football field. He also took part in some games for the senior club who were very sorry when he was removed from Stranraer. Of a quiet and retiring disposition, he played the game as it ought to be played, and no one ever heard his voice raised in anger or protest. His death in action adds one more to the long list of Stranraer footballers who have laid down their lives for the country.

Also named on St Ninian's United Free Church memorial.
