KevinStoke has very kindly offered to contact the Scottish schools featured on this forum who are known to have war memorials on their premises.
If anyone knows of any other schools which are not featured on the forum, please contact Kevin direct with further information so that he can chase them up for us.

A very hearty THANKS to Kevin for offering us his services.

I cant remember saying that lol. I am sure I phoned you on another matter and nothing to do with schools. Never mind.

The ball is rolling already with 10 schools contacted via phone or email. The schools are on half term next week so I dont expect any results until they are back up and running.

Dumfries Academy has two memorials, one listed and one not, and Lauriknowe primary school has several unlisted memorials. All collected and posted. I will contact all other primary schools to see what they have and get photos and details.

Thanks Malcolm.

Here is a story of one of our great capitals schools.

Edinburgh is supposed to be the cream of our education within Scotland. why then when I asked for a photo of one of the schools/colleges memorial they duly assisted, only problem it was the back of the memorial and couldn't see a thing on the memorial never mind a name, but did get a lovely view of the castle in the background. doh.

I am getting replies from the schools/colleges now, no pictures yet but a few emails asking for me to prove the project is genuine because it is schools/colleges that I have approached. This doesn't bother me, infact it is nice to see that schools/colleges are protecting their children. God knows if they cant who can.

I have replied to the schools/colleges concerned and hopefully will receive a photo of the memorials soon.

Here is a copy of the emails I send to the educational institutions

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am helping to run a website on Scottish War memorials.

I have had a huge response from many schools and I am led to believe you have a war memorial within the school/college/university somewhere.

Would it be possible for someone to email me a photo of this memorial so that it can go on the website. http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/

If I could have a photo of the whole memorial and a close up of any names or writings on the memorial I will place them on the website but want to do the memorial justice.

Many thanks

Kevin.

I have emailed another load of schools today, fingers crossed that with half term being over the replies start flooding in.

Kevin

Nice email Kevin.

I would suggest though that you should replace the "Helping to run" bit with something that makes it sound a bit more "volunteer-y". You're making it sound like you're actually employed by the forum, which no-one is. This is entirely a voluntary thing, and you should try and make it clear that this is in no way a professional endeavour.

It might also be helpful to say that while we'd like a photo from them, if we have a willing volunteer in the area they would be happy to come and take a picture themselves, time permitting. That way they wouldn't have to go to any effort.

Due to current issues I have asked the schools who have emailed me but not attached photos if they want to involve the kids and get them to post them. Fingers crossed they do.
