Most will have noticed I am currently identifying quite a number of potential non-comms.

I got 'side tracked' doing this while searching for something else completely.

You can browse the registers rather by searching for a name directly and there are volumes which are specific to post discharge deaths.

I have been picking out men in Scottish regiments and checking from there.

However, I dipped into some from Ireland, Wales and England and I am pretty sure their DC's would match up if ordered.

In short you could scrutinise and research every listing which runs to thousands.

Perhaps this is what IFCP volunteers may be tasked with in future but for me I will only be doing the Scottish ones with perhaps a few from elsewhere to have a 'footprint' on these Islands

Mark

Many thanks for the clarification Mark. I was wondering why some were identified on war memorials and some were not.

It's a fantastic piece of work you are doing and will be very useful I'm sure.

I've made this thread a sticky as it will be useful to have it at the top of the section to let people know where all these entries on our non-comm section are coming from.

Kind regards

Adam

This has been an interesting exercise but some make for tragic reading.

A good number were discharged through severe wounds/illness and later took their own lives.

I'll bet it has been tragic reading. The health of young men shattered by wounds and disease.

Thank you

I would add that assistance from Local Authorities in obtaining burial details/documentation has been/is quite a challenge.

Mark,

This is really interesting and congratulations on your successful work so far.

As someone coming new to the subject of post-discharge deaths can I ask you what registers you are browsing to find these details?

Forgive me if I've missed this elsewhere.

All the best,

G67

G67,

Hello and welcome.

They are the Soldiers Effects Registers which are available on Ancestry.

Mark - If you have a list for Falkirk district, just let me know.

We now have permission to access the Burial Registers for war (related) deaths and to photograph the entries if/when necessary.

Took a while and lots of discussions, but I hope worth the wait!
