I'm afraid I can't give any more details at the moment for this memorial. I was kindly sent these photos by Gary Wood after I posted a message on the GWDF. I'm afraid I don't have any more photos of the name panels.

The names on the Kirkcaldy and Dysart War Memorials have recently been transcribed and investigated and a book published with their details by the Fife Family History Society. It is The Register of the Fife Fallen in the Great War, vol 1:Kirkcaldy & Dysart Fallen, 1914-1919 I have a copy if anyone wants a name looked up.

I alos found a link to the Scottish Screen Archive which has a film on the unveiling of the memorial:

I've added this to the thread as it appears that the Museum and Art Gallery building was part of the overall scheme for the Great War.

Hi all,

I posted a reply in the Kirkcaldy WW2 posting that gives a little info on the gifting of the memorial. Hope it adds something to a tremendous memorial which I think a lot of locals take for granted. It's superb.

regards
Clark

Private Hugh Mackay HLI also appears on Tongue War Memorial in the Highlands. He was a native of Tongue who moved to live in Kirkcaldy prior to World War 1. He was killed in action fighting in Mesopotamia (todays Iraq)

Thanks to Mrs Aase Goldsmith for these photos, which give different views of the war memorial and show the sun dial which is in the "War Memorial" gardens.
