Bangour Village Church was built as a commemoration of the role played by the hospital during the war. It has a memorial chapel listing staff who lost their lives.
As Bangour Hospital is now derelict, the church has been secured and access cannot be had. Pictures of the interior, the memorial and regimental banners can be seen at the following link:

Noticed that Anne had posted, 5 Sept. 2010, about this nurse being on memorials in Dollar.
Isabella Dingwall Cousins, Nurse, died May 1918, age 25, was the daughter of John Cousins, Butcher, and Christina Dingwall.

Another staff member who looked after the wounded:
Minnie Ronald Mair, Masseuse, died 2 March 1921, age 38, was the daughter of Ludovic Mair, Minister of Bunkle Parish, Chirnside, and Jane Barclay Miller. Cause of Death: Spinal Tumour and Paralysis.
GROS: 1921 Deaths 685/02 0105
Note: As many as thirty masseuses were employed, who were members of the Almeric Paget Military Massage Corps, and later Military Massage Service. They were paid direct by the War Office. They stayed as Middleton Hall, Uphall and were transported to the hospital each day by a horse-drawn wagonette, and later a motor wagonette. Source: Report of Bangour Village 1914-1923

Writing is hard to decipher on this death certificate.
Jeannie E. McClymont, VAD(?) Nurse, died 13(?) February 1919, age 21, was the daughter of Thomas Stewart McClymont, Chauffeur, and Jane Pringle. Died Edinburgh War Hospital of Influenza and Broncho Pneumonia.

Jeanie Afflick Young, Nurse, died 15(?) January 1919, age 27, was the daughter of John Young, Gardener, and Agnes ?. Died Nurses' home, Bangour of Influenza and Broncho Pneumonia.

1 October 2015: Planning Permission in Principle for a residential and mixed use redevelopment of the former hospital site is being sought ref:LIVE/0607/P/15. The application notes some of the listed buildings at the site may be proposed for full demolition in a subsequent application. This may include villas 7,8,9 and 21, with other buildings potentially proposed for partial demolition. |
