While looking for something not related to the Alloa War Memorial i came across a description of it from the local newspaper about when it was first unveiled, remembering that once upon a time someone had been asking what was missing from the soliders hand i thought i would let anyone who was still interested know. From Alloa Advertiser and Alloa Journal.
" The bronze figure leans forward, graceful and gentle, one tender hand protectively stretched over the crouching figures below, engaged in the desperate business of war - four soldiers in fighting order, one ahead of the others, cutting a barbed-wire entanglement, one with arm strained to throw a bomb, and two riflemen with fixed bayonets, ready to attack. For the central feature, there is a figure symbolising Alloa, carrying a shield bearing the Burgh coat of arms and wearing a mural crown, the idea is: The Thoughts of the Town following her sons in battle
It was unveiled on September 28 1924 by Earl Haig.
In 1951 Sunday November 11 to be exact 2 more panels were added, which were unveiled by Provost William Brown, the first holding 55 names the second held 70. _________________ just looking to put leaves on the branches of my tree. |

That was me that was curious.
Here's Davids image which would be of the figure in the process of throwing a bomb (grenade), the two riflemen are on the opposite side.
Thanks for that description.
