The Milne Shield is a swimming trophy in memory of Lt. Robert Milne of the R.A.F. who died in WW1. It was donated by his friend and has been competed for by school pupils in the Tayside area.

Presumably the shield resides, on display, with the school of the each annual winner in turn. (in the background of the photo can be seen the wooden Roll of Honour board for WW2 former pupils of Forfar Academy)

Hi,

I have been researching the life of my great-uncle, Lt Eric Bailey, and came across this reference to Robert Milne. Eric was the pilot and Milne the observer in the DH9 that was shot down over Linselles on 11th August 1918. I would like to find out more about Milne and the trophy. I have lots of photos that Eric took, I wonder if any include Milne? Does he have any living relatives?

Delboy, I sent you a PM then realised I should probably have posted here (first time to this site sorry!).

Any help apprciated.

Thanks

Jon Bailey

Just came across this thread - Robert Milne was an employee of the Union Bank of Scotland, and is on their memorial at St Vincent Street, Glasgow.
