Been looking for this man for a while: his name's on the Plean war memorial, but I can't find him on CWGC or SNWM. Why could that be? Can anyone give me an idea of what to do now? He's among the WW2 names.
I did find an entry at Register House for the death of a George Henry Connolly Hynds, but on 4th September 1948 of Phthisis (4 years), so might that be him?

Tanya - I think that that is your man. I see he died in St. Ninians, Stirling.
Was that in the Infirmary? If so the death register entry should give his U.R. (Usual Residence)
The 1948 date takes him out of the CWGC range and, as he is not on the Armed Forces Memorial Roll of Honour, I suspect that he was discharged from the military between 1944 and 1948. (Ill for 4 years)
The only way to be sure is to get his service records but that needs next of kin and loads of money. _________________ Ken |

Hi Ken,
Thanks for that. Where did you get St Ninians? I have 31 Loanfoot Gardens, Plean in my notes... So the Plean connection is definite, but in 1948 - I wasn't sure if it was the man on the memorial... That said, no other man came up with those initials. He was 29.

Tanya - I hadn't realised that Plean was in St.Ninian's Parish, Stirlingshire.
So he died at home at Loanfoot Gardens. He was 29, a Wood Cutting Machinist and unmarried. The death was registered by his brother John.
His father had been a miner (deceased) and his mother was Jeanie (Connolly) Hynds
So I'm sure you are correct and it is this man. _________________ Ken |

Thanks Ken.
Yes, Plean church was originally a quod sacra church of St Ninian's parish. As a matter of interest, I believe the local old folks' home still has the minister of St Ninian's as one of the governors...
Anyway, that's another one found. Wonder if there's an obituary in any of the papers? |
