ALEXANDER LAWRENCE 9th ROYAL SCOTS
Also named on the East Linton and Prestonkirk Parish War Memorial in East Lothian as:
ALEX. LAWRENCE
Alexander Sutherland Lawrence – age 36 – Private (325767) 1/9th (Highlanders) Battalion, Royal Scots.
Alexander served his apprenticeship in Hawick and he was a baker at the the High Street for about 16 years. He was employed and living at Brown's Place, East Linton, Prestonkirk when he enlisted in November 1915. He was mobilised as Private (2277) in the 8th Royal Scots in May 1916 and posted to the 1/9th Battalion in France in August 1917 but he was killed less than two months later.
Born 1881 in Wilton, Hawick. Son of James and Jane (Sutherland) Lawrence of Hawick. Husband of Jessie Cook (Forrest) Lawrence of Noble Place and of Trinity Street, Hawick who he married in 1906 in Hawick.
Killed in Action on 12 October 1917 and buried in Wancourt British Cemetery, France.
Also named on the Hawick Burgh Roll of Honour. _________________ Ken |
