The Scotsman, 23rd August 1921

HUME - A war memorial erected near the village of Hume, Berwickshire, in memory of seven men of the parish who fell in the war, was dedicated at a special service at which Captain James Balfour, Royal Scots, gave an address in the abscense from indisposition of his father, Captain CB Balfour of Newton Don, Lord-Lieutenant of the County. The memorial is a cairn of whinstone, the inscription being borne on a plain granite slab, and was designed by Mr F Deas FRIBA, Edinburgh.
