I am part of Garnock Valley Family History Group, we are planning to commemorate local residents involved in WW1. For Dalry, we have used the War Memorial Roll of Honour as a starting point. Currently I am researching how the memorial was planned and funded, and the criteria for name inclusion on the plaques as discovered some names not included, |

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your research. We actually have a thread for Dalry already:
http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=906
Perhaps you'd like to add some commemts to that thread? If you post some names of those listed which you are having trouble identifying I'm sure some of our members will try and help.
In the mean time I am going to move this thread into the new members section.
Kind regards

Welcome from the other Dalry. You will certainly find a lot of discussion, both here and on other forums such as GWF, about why some names are or are not included on specific memorials.
I am due to give a talk to the Kyle and Carrick Civic Society on "War Memorials of South West Scotland". The talk is at Loudon Hall, Ayr on 4th November at 7:30 and I am sure you will be made very welcome if you are able to come.
