JOHN MURRAY.
Named on the Chalmers Church memorial in Langholm but not on the main War Memorial.
John Murray – age 39 – Private (202413) 8th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders.
John was the manager of the Co-operative Stores in South Queensferry, West Lothian. (Source: CWGC)
Born 1878 in Carlisle, Cumberland. (Source:1881 & 1891 census and GRO – Birth Index. SNWM has Langholm)
Son of the late Robert and Jane (Beeby) Murray of Llama Cottage, Aspatria, Cumberland. (Source: CWGC and 1901 & 1911 census)
Husband of the late Mary Anne (Irving) Murray of 7 Rosevale Street, Langholm who he married in 1901 in Langholm.
Mary Anne died in 1905 in Langholm, aged 27.
Missing in Action on 22 August 1917 and named on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
