This memorial from around 1920 was found in poor condition earlier this year in storage at the Police office at Banchory.
It was beautifully refurbished and placed in the Aberdeenshire Command Area HQ at Inverurie where is was unveiled at 11.00 on Armistice Day 2008 with some family members of the Fallen officers present.

Alexander Cowie joined the Aberdeenshire Constabulary in 1907 and was stationed in Cults, Kingswells, Fraserburgh, Oldmeldrum and was latterly at Kintore.
Sgt Cowie's grandson Peter, joined Grampian Police retiring as a Chief Inspector in 1997.

Excellent news. There's hope yet for some of the other lost memorials.
It looks in really good condition now. Well done to all involved restoring this memorial to its former glory.

A look at the birth index on ScotlandsPeople for given names Alexander Lonie for any surname (1855 to 2009) gives 11 results. Only one is a Cowie, and he was born in 1881 in Leith South. So it looks like you found the right one in 1891.
There are many choices in the 1901 census (none indexed with middle name or initial). In the 1911 census he was in Old Meldrum with his wife, daughter and sister-in-law. He was married in Kinnethmont in 1909 (he was resident in Fraserburgh at the time, and his bride was resident in Kinnethmont).
