The website you link to Spoons also has a photograph of the Second World War plaque which is inside the church. CLick on "Photo Tour" and then select "War Memorial" to see it.

Unfortunately you just can't make out the units.

Re: Private, 2535/240799, Alexander Marrs, 1/5th KOSB

This man is not listed on the CWGC's "Debt of Honour Register". He was discharged in May 1918 and died the year after. His file (now available on Ancestry) clearly states that his ill health was due to military service. I will send his details and a copy of his death certificate to the CWGC and see how it goes from there.

Searching through the WO 364 records over the weekend has uncovered a number of similar cases (which I will also submit to the CWGC). It makes me wonder how widespread was the non-commemoration (by CWGC) of discharged soldiers?

In my research I have found that the non-commemoration of discharged soldiers is widespread. I currently have 13 men on file who died and are not commemorated.

I spotted that on a well-known auction site recently. Glad to see it has gone to a good home.
