Walter Robert Charles Burgess enlisted at Nairn on 10th February 1917 into the 3rd Seaforth Highlanders and declared he was born at Urray, Ross-shire.
Pte Burgess served in France from 24th May to 3rd August 1918 and transferred to the R.A.S.C. in early 1919.

He died at Rochester Row Military Hospital, London on 20th October 1919 aged 20 years. His NOK were then living in Rothes.

Walter has been forwarded as a case to CWGC / MOD as an in service death Non Comm. His grave had been located.

He is commemorated on the Parish of Rothes War Memorial as a Seaforth.

The NOK wished a private burial and he was buried in Rothes Cemetery. IWGC (later CWGC) had no interest in UK burials at that point.

Regiment/Service: Royal Army Service Corps
Age: 20
Date of Death: 20/10/1919
Service No: MT/411609
Additional information: Son of Walter and Catherine Burgess, of Rothes, Morayshire.
N.B.: Recent research has shown that Private Burgess is buried here.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Old Part. Grave 323
Cemetery: ROTHES OLD CHURCHYARD
