“Although the book focuses mainly on Clydebank, because that is where the majority of the Blitz took place, there is a fair bit of Renfrewshire material within the pages. This relates mostly to the serious bombing raids of April and May 1941, when Paisley suffered extensive damage and a terrible loss of life.
“There were also quite a few stray bombs that fell here and there in the Renfrewshire suburbs and countryside, though few of any great consequence.”
The first-hand accounts of the Blitz which John has recorded in his book, tell the people’s own stories of how they felt, feared, floundered and finally coped in the mayhem and chaos.
The names and addresses of the dead are listed at the back of the book, which also contains a comprehensive index of people and places involved in the Blitz and incidents connected with it, including heartbreaking lists of families who were wiped out entirely." |
