First World War:
The First World War bronze plaque was unveiled on 19th March 1922.
The plaque is set on the wall below the stained glass windows which were commissioned to commemorate the war dead and the first minister of the church, the Rev. Hugh Sutherland.

Sec. Lt. James P. Mitchell, H.L.I., (died of wounds), was a brother of the Misses Mitchell, 21 Melville Street, Pollokshields, Glasgow, and the youngest son of the late Mr M. P. Mitchell, Langside, Glasgow. Before enlisting in the A. and S. H. in November, 1915, he was chartering clerk with Messrs Thomas Skinner & Co., ship brokers, Renfield Street, Glasgow. He received his commission in the H.L.I. in June 1916.

LIEUT. C. G. SCOTT, A. & S.H.
Lieut. Charles Gordon Scott, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (killed), was the only son of Mr and Mrs Charles F. Scott, Ingledene, Newlands, Glasgow. It had been his intention to adopt the Army as a profession, but prior to enlisting he was in the accountant’s department of the City Line Shipping Office. Lieut. Scott was educated at Glasgow High School, and received his commission after training with the O.T.C. at Glasgow University.

Biographical Notes

Glasgow Officer Killed.
Captain A. C. Whyte, Royal Field Artillery, who, it is officially stated, was killed in action on 11th April, was the only son of Mr and Mrs John C. Whyte, Oakley, Corrour Road, Newlands, Glasgow. He was a native of Glasgow, where he was born in 1882, and was educated at the High School, Elmbank Street. He began his professional career in the Queen Street branch of the British Linen Bank, and in May 1913 was appointed agent of the new branch at Clarkston, Busby. In January 1915 he enlisted in the Glasgow Highlanders as a private, and afterwards obtained a commission. For seven years he served in the 1st Lanark Royal Artillery Volunteers, in which he was a sergeant. He was married to a daughter of Mr Thomas Bell, Sherriff Officer Garfield, Hamilton.
