Another case of a man being absent from CWGC but on SNWM. WW2 civilians should be on the CWGC database I think?

Surname PATON
Firstname Alexander
Date of death 19/03/1940
Place of birth Aberdeen
Other S.S. "LOWDOCK" (F/V)
SNWM roll MERCHANT NAVY & FISHING FLEETS (Part 2)
Rank Deck Hand
Theatre of death Unknown

The gravestone does say lost at sea.

No, it dependes on the circumstances of his death
He would only qualify if his death was, under certain conditions, due to hostile actions by an enemy.
Death due to everyday occupational risks at sea are not acceptable ie. he fell into a hold, went over the side or vessel lost as appears to be the case here.

The same is true on land if he fell under a bus. If a result of bombing, no problem.
The SWNM criteria has no connection with that of CWGC.

The trawler Lowdock was lost on 19th March 1940 5 miles east of Todhead, Stonehaven. She was rammed by trawler Lady Philomena.
