Born 17th February 1896
Died at Abbeville Base Hospital on
10th July of wounds received in action
In the battle of the Somme 1st July 1916
LOVING ALL, BY ALL BELOVED
HE DIED AS HE HAD LIVED
WITHOUT GEAR AND WITHOUT REPROACH
BEGG, ALEXANDER JAMES

For conspicuous gallantry. He organised
and led a successful raid on the enemy's
trenches, and, though wounded, continued to
