This is the memorial for Stronord Primary School which closed in the 1960s. The building is now an outdoor centre situated at the southern edge of the Kirroughtree Forest about 2 miles east of Newton Stewart.

The memorial is made of marble and is still in its original location which is just inside the present main entrance (at the rear of the building). The nearest civic memorial is Minnigaff.

My thanks to Andy Mason who arranged access and to Andrew Shankland who gave me some of the history. Andrew reports that he was instrumental in preventing the memorial ending up in the skip when the builders were clearing the building after the school closed. Good job!

Good job indeed. Well done to all concerned for preserving it.

Cheers
