North Berwick Community Centre, Law Road, North Berwick. EH39 4PN

I spent time in the Community Centre in North Berwick this afternoon and found a war memorial in what I think would have been the entrance hall when it was a school. (The building is a bit of a rabbit warren!) It was erected in 1894 as a High School and in 1931 amalgamated with the Burgh school. The senior pupils moved into the current High School in 1940, leaving the primary pupils in the old building (they moved into a new school in 1975). The war memorial was left behind in the old building.
The heading reads: 1914 pro patria 1919
These former pupils of this school fell in the Great War
There follows two columns of names and then the foot note: Their name liveth for evermore.

The names are:
James S Addison
Robert T Arundel
William B Blair
John Brown
James Carnaghan
Duncan M Campbell
William Gracie
Alexander Grant
David Grant
John Heggie
D Fancourt Hutchison
Charles J Hutchison
George Johnston
Edward McNeil
William McNicol
John O Mattison
James Mattison
George Moffat
John Morrison
William Morrison
William M Peattie
David S Purdie
Arthur A Richardson
Robert F Rintoul
John Robertson
Robert E Ross
David T Ross
P Ernest Shiel
George H Sim
Sydney Smale
James A E Smith
Alexander D Stuart
Clarence Walker
Walter Walker
David Wyllie

I have some photos taken on my phone if anyone is interested.

I found some more information about this memorial and the men commemorated on it: http://www.northberwickcommunitycentre.org.uk/sites/all/modules/filemanager/files/26_may.pdf

The memorial was inaugurated on 16th September 1921.
