Can anyone help me find any of these 2 soldiers and a positive link to either Kilbirnie or Glengarnock.

They are

Private John Barbour RSF &
Private Andrew Boyce Royal Scots.

Andrew Boyce name appears on the Glengarnock Steel Works memorial.

I have searched and searched and searched for these 2 men but alas they seem to want to stay out in the cold. Can you help me bring them in from the cold. They may have a link to Dalry or Beith.

Hope someone out there can put some egg on my face and many other expert researchers.

Kevin

What information do you have? Do you want/have you found them on the 1901 census? There is an Andrew Boyce, age 4, at Dalry.
Also, John Barbour is commemorated in Kilbirnie Auld Kirk.

Apologies if you already have this info.

Wait for the 1911 census? Smile

(Not a particularly helpful suggestion, sorry...)

I had a look into the above Andrew Boyce. The father, Charles died on 22/3/1922 and the informant was son Andrew who was living at 18 New Single Row (?), Dalry,Ayrshire.
On 30/4/1923 the mother Janet ms Stevenson dies and again the informant is son Andrew. Andrew himself dies 12/1/1939 of chronic bronchitis.
Doubt if it is this one.
Have names been added after the rest?

Kevin,

Please list what sources you have checked for these men, that will save us duplicating any effort which has come before.

CWGC, SDGW, Ayrshire Roots (this covers the local newspaper, Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald), Edinburgh archives, (professional search by staff because of the BBC Radio Scotland article, they found 5 but couldn't find these 2).

John, the names are not add ons they are part of the main panels. The memorial was unveiled in 1922 but I cannot find any criteria or dates when the names had to be in by.
