I believe that is where the old granite works was before it was knocked down and I guess when the knocked it down they did not want to knock down the memorial and move it.

Memorial Stone located on Constitution Street, Aberdeen

European War
1914-1918

To commemorate the memory of the following employees of The Aberdeen Granite Works who nobly gave their lives for their country

Pte David Mitchell (20) 4th Gordons
Drl Alex D Summers (24) RFA
Pte Robt Y Coutts (20) 4th Gordons
Pte John Stephen (30) Royal Scots
Pte William Keith (19) 4th Gordons
Pte Robt Collie (40) Seaforths
AB Chas Mundie, MM (22) RN Div
Pte George King (3Cool Royal Scots Fus
Pte James Duncan (24) Scott Horse
Drl Andrew Carrol (24), RFA

As far as I can ascertain the granite yard on this site disappeared in the mid-1950's. The memorial sits precariously on a single section of wall, behind which is a car park for a clothing store. It is largely missed by the few pedestrians who pass by. Let us hope its long term future is secure. Lest we forget.
