I would like to draw attention to this man and invite anyone who is interested in him to contact me as I have done a considerable amount of research and believe he is due greater recognition in his Scottish homeland.
John Christie Wright appears to have always been known by his full name, possibly because there was an artist by the name John Wright.
John Christie Wright was born in Aberdeen to Moses Simpson Wright and Margaret Wright (nee Christie). His family also lived at Waulkmill, Rothiemay, Banffshire. He was educated at Robert Gordon's and Gray's School of Art becoming a proficient Sculptor. He emigrated to Australia as a young man C1912 where he made a name for himself as an artist in the few short years before he enlisted for War Service in the Australian Expeditionary Force. Sadly he died in France in 1917 and his name appears on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneaux, one of 11,000 Australian Servicemen recorded there. His name is also recorded on the War Memorial at Rothiemay.
I set up a Wikipedia entry for him some years ago. This has subsequently been edited by others sand there are now some inaccuracies (copied from other websites) which I need to correct. However the page provides a good synopsis of his life.
My research continues and I hope to be able to locate some of his work which must be in private collections of an Australian family I know he was connected with.
I can be contacted via email to my gmail account. Simply add @gmail.com to the end of daviren.nz |

Many thanks for the new addition to this section. If youd care to add more information here it won't be edited unlike Wikipedia.
Adam
I note he has a couple of memorials in Australia as well as being listed at Rothiemay |
