DYSART ROYAL SCOT IS REPORTED KILLED.
Private John Cargill, Royal Scots, whose wife and family reside at 51 Edington Place, Dysart, is reported killed in action.
Private Cargill, who leaves a widow and four children, was formerly a miner in the Frances Pit, and enlisted in January last year. He had been fully a year in the firing line. He was wounded last year, but returned to the front five months ago. His wife received a postcard from him stating that he expected to be out of the trenches for a rest, but the following day a letter she had sent him was returned to her marked "Killed in action."

Unveiled on Saturday 20th of November 1920 by the Earl of Rosslyn.
The two out of sequence names are later additions as there are 104 names and the article states only 102 at the time of dedication.

Two men honoured on the Dysart War Memorial served with the 15th Battalion Cheshire Regiment. This was the first Bantam Battalion of the British Army. Bantam units were made up of men between 5’ and 5’3” tall. The 15th and 16th Battalions of the Cheshire Regiment were formed in Birkenhead in 1914 and adopted into the British Army in 1915. They arrived on the Western Front in January 1916 as part of the 35th Division.

20321 Private William Leslie from Dysart was a miner in the Lady Blanche Pit before the war. He enlisted in Kirkcaldy in November 1914. Leslie was killed in action, aged 23, on July 17th 1916. A shell burst in a trench killing Leslie and two other men, wounding several others. He was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Leslie, 29 Fitzroy Street. His grave was later re-interred in the Bernafay Wood British Cemetery, Montauban. He is also commemorated on Pathhead Parish Church memorial plaques and windows.

20319 Private Henry Hutchison was a miner in the Lady Blanche Pit before the war and joined up with William Leslie. The Hutchison and Leslie families lived at 29 Fitzroy Street, Dysart.

Hutchison was killed by a shell during a very heavy enemy bombardment of the line held by the 15th Cheshires. His platoon commander and company commander both wrote letters to his family, the latter writing “he behaved most magnificently when under horrible conditions of mud and water, showing great cheeriness, and setting a fine example to the other men”.

Private Hutchison had been home on leave only three weeks before his death on October 24th, 1917. He was 21 years old and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, and on a plaque in the Barony Church.
