Major Ernest Henry Samuel TWYFORD appears on the Royal Scots Memorial in St. Giles but also appears on the Cameronian Memorial in Glasgow Cathedral and St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Hamilton.
The following information explains when he transferred etc.
Born October 1863. Entered Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) December 1883. Promoted to Lt., November 1887, Captain March 1894, Major April 1899. Transferred to R.S. 1st Bn. Feb. 1901. Held position of Adjutant, S.R. from Nov 1887 - 91. Served with Lushai Expeditionary Force as Transport Officer 1889, received medal with clasp. Served with 2nd Bn. S.R. in Natal Field Force. Present at Battle of Colenso, Spion Kop and Vaal Kranz, operations on the Tugela from Feb 14th - 27th, including Pieter's Hill where severely wounded and Relief of Ladysmith where mentioned in despatches. Killed in action.
Anyone able to explain why he's on the Cameronian's plaques as he'd been transferred, or it this usual?

According to "The Last Post", he was killed while on his way to join the 1st Royal Scots as second in command but died before he assumed the role.
That might technically mean he was still serving with the Scottish Rifles at the time of his death.
The regiments probably felt they both had a legitimate reason for including him on their memorials. |

I meant to add: I'll check the casualty roll and see what regiment he's listed under. Knowing my luck he'll have two entries. |

I have his date of death as 13th April 1901 (offhand I can't remember where I got this), which would mean he had been with the Royal Scots for a couple of months? Kind of contradicts the fact the info that he was killed on 'his way' unless of course it took months to get from A to B.
I also have his place of death as Badfontein - would that have any bearing on anything?
