Just looking at the date the bridge was erected (or finished) - 1935. Thats a long time after the Great War ended. Was this the first parish memorial or was there another raised prior to the bridge being built ?

Mark

It is the only war memorial and may have taken all that time for the focus of their commemoration of the war dead to be agreed upon and the funds raised to pay for it. For such a small parish the raising of road bridge will have been quite an achievement.
The parish kirk and kirkyard are only a short distance from the bridge

Jim,

Just to echo what Mark said, the memorial is definatly different but a fantastic and fitting memorial non the less.
