The Scotsman, Monday 27th June 1921, Page 5.

"Longcroft

An obelisk in grey granite erected at The Sheddings, Longcroft, to commemorate the Dennyloanhead, Haggs Parish, Banknock and Allandale men who fell in the war, was unveiled by His Grace the Duke of Montrose, K.T., Lord Lieutenant for the county. On the obelisk are the names of 86 men. Rev. Alexander Macara paid tribute to the memory of the fallen."

Lance Corporal William Welsh (A & S Highlanders) on the WWI section of this memorial was the Uncle of William Welsh in the WWII section. Both men were born at Braeface near Banknock and they were killed at almost the same age. William Welsh (WWI) has an empty grave in Kilsyth Cemetery which was a tribute from his wife Lilas. His nephew has a similar grave in Denny and Dunipace Cemetery which was a memorial by his mother.
I am sure there are other families in the region who have a very similar story of sacrifice in both the World Wars.

"A few weeks ago the Army authorities intimated to Mrs S. McEwan, Widow's Row, Haggs, Stirlingshire, that her husband, Lance-Corporal Samuel McEwan, 2nd Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, had died a prisoner of war in Germany. Nothing had been heard of Lance-Corporal McEwan since he went to the front in August.
Now the Authorities have sent another communication to Mrs McEwan stating that her husband was killed in action on August 26 and was buried by the Germans.
Another brother of Lance-Corporal McEwan in the same regiment has not been heard of since September."
