Not listed on UKNIWM

Located in the hamlet of Wallaceton, parish of Glencairn (near Moniaive) at OS Map Ref NX 846 873.

My thanks to Gladys Cuttle (username Teddy) for getting into this difficult location and taking all the photos.

The memorial consists of the hall plus a (post WW2) handwritten scroll. Gladys turned around the scroll and found that there was an earlier (post WW1) scroll which is on the back.

This is the original roll that is on the back

Gladys points out:

The roll in Glencairn church has the same 73 names as the original list but the 'new' list has only 72 names - Pte Thomas Graham is missing. The original differs from the new one in dates of the war, no dedication of the hall, Lt Aitken Bell should be Lt Arthur Bell, Sgt. R. Wellwood Cowan should be Sgt. R. Willwood Cowan.

From the deeds there was a small hall there in 1919, and in 1920 hall added to and desdicated for WW1, lease for 50years, then in 1960's wee porch added.

also my own observations:

No idea what the ticks are for against some of the names on the original roll. Rowland McGowan was incorrectly spelt as Roland on the original Roll, spelt Rowland on new list, Moniaive institute board and CWGC.

The main difference between the old and new rolls is that the old one was in order of rank but the new one is in alphabetical order of surname.
