Does anyone know who this soldier is?
Failing that, I will settle for the regiment!
Thanks. |

You can also get info by the jacket which is the Scottish style with the cutaway at the bottom - modified for the kilt sporran.
Glengarry blue (not helping with this photo) but no band and red tourie again not helping in this photo...but you get the idea.
The belt is 1908 style I think. You can also tell socks with different diced tops etc and sporrans it's all a help when trying to get regiments.
Norman Holding has a couple of books that might help they also can help with wound stripes and service stripes for good conduct/service. Again not in this photo. This would mean and early photo as again there is not sign of rank....

In the modern army, glengarry without dicing is only worn by members of pipes and drums but that may not be true back then. I have only seen a cane used by NCOs and officers so that confuses me. There may be a studio named on the back of the photo. It looks like a studio backdrop so there may be many more photos with the same backdrop to enable you to identify the studio, their records may survive somewhere and you could get the name from that. Bit of a longshot though.
