As with the "lost" village of Haywood in Lanarkshire Lassodie no longer exists. A mining village, the closure of the mines signalled its death knell and by the late 1940's it was completely gone.
The memorial was taken from the original location, outside Lassodie Public Hall, and erected at the roadside of the B912.

LASSODIE SCOTS GUARDSMAN BELIEVED KILLED.
The War Office has notified Mrs Sharp 22 New Rows, Lassodie, Fife, that her husband, Private William Sharp, 2d Scots Guards, is missing and believed to have been killed on 10th December.
Prior to the war Private Sharp was a miner at Lassodie and joined the army at the end of 1914. He had been in France for five months.

LASSODIE MINER SUCCUMBS TO WOUNDS.
The parents of Private William Taylor, who reside at 56 Fairfield, Lassodie, have received official intimation that he has succumbed to his wounds.
Private Taylor enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corps along with a brother a year ago. Both were employed as miners at Lassodie prior to enlistment. He was 25 years of age.

FIFE SOLDIERS LAY DOWN THEIR LIVES.
Information has been received by Mr Gillespie, 36 Fairfield, Lassodie, that his son, Private William Gillespie, Black Watch, has been killed in action on 22d April. He was twenty- two years of age, and was employed as a miner prior to enlistment.
Mrs Bogan, 20 Grievesland Terrace, Kelty, has received intimation from the War Office that her husband, Private Robert Bogan, has been killed in action. Private Bogan enlisted in the Black Watch last September, and went to the front in February. He belonged to Dundee, where his mother resides, but he came to Kelty twelve years ago, and was working as a miner in the Aitken Pit prior to enlistment. He was thirty-one years of age and is survived by a widow and four children.

"Private Robert Rutherford, 1st Black Watch, who was a miner at Lassodie, near Dunfermline, prior to the outbreak of war, has been unofficially reported killed in action. He had seen service in the South African war, and in India. He is survived by his wife and five children."
