Interestingly enough, Herbert's name appears on the Hawick Roll of Honour though I've not been able to find out why.
He was married to Violet, the daughter of Mr John Corse-Scott of Synton near Hawick.
Corse-Scott was "well-to-do" and he lost both his sons in the Great War, John Michael Corse-Scott in 1917 and Alexander, to disease caught on active service, in 1919.
Alexander is not commemorated by the CWGC and is just one of the many men I'm looking to have added to the CWGC database.

Both the Corse-Scott sons appear listed on the Ashkirk War Memorial which sits inside the Ashkirk church, though why Herbert appears on the Hawick Roll and not at Ashkirk doesn't make sense to me at the moment. http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=297&highlight=ashkirk
