Roberton's West Kirk is one of two churches in this small village, both of which are now private residences. Formerly the United Free Church it closed in the 1970s, I believe.
The church was converted into a home about 10 years ago. There are two stained glass window memorials: one to the four men from the Wiston and Roberton parish who died in the First World War.
The other is dedicated to William Douglas MacGregor.
It reads: To the Glory of God and in Memory of the Men of the Parish of Wiston and Roberton who gave their lives in the Service of King and Country during The Great War 1914-1918.
Gunner John A Halliday Heavy Battery Canadians September 1918.
Private James Waddell Tank Corps Germany October 1918.
Private Hugh Neilson Scottish Rifles.
Private John Wilson Scottish Rifles.
Greater Love hath no man than this.

All four soldiers are also named on the civic war memorial in Wiston kirkyard. A press clipping reporting the unveiling of the window can be seen on the Wiston and Roberton Civic Memorial thread. |
