Jasper Briggs – age 29 – Sergeant (16720) 11th Battalion, Royal Scots.
Jasper was a gamekeeper at Lamberton Toll, Mordington, Berwick when he enlisted in December 1914. Killed in Action on 12 March 1916.
He is named on the Edgerston War Memorial in Roxburghshire. (his parents' home parish)
As far as I can see Lamberton Toll was on the Anglo-Scottish border.
Which Berwickshire (or other) War Memorial might he be on? _________________ Ken |

Not on any Berwickshire memorial.
Mordington is 1 of 2 parishes in the county which did not erect a memorial - Cranshaws is the other - which may be the explanation. Mordington's a slim parish bordering the Berwick Liberties so another explanation may be if he's on Berwick's memorial.
It's possible there might have been a roll of honour (which is the case up at Cranshaws albeit congregational not for overall parish). However the church was demolished in 1987 and there's no roll at Foulden with which it united. |
